Драйвер для звуковой карты Asus Xonar DG/DGX для Linux
Имеется такая очень неплохая линейка звуковых карт Xonar от Asus, Правда, драйверов под Linux для этих карт что-то написать не захотели. В гугле уже много разочарованных отзывов аж с 2011 года. Исправляем ситуацию: теперь еще две модели (Xonar DG\DGX) поддерживаются.

UPD 17/03/2014:
Таки нашли и пофиксили баг-регрессию, из-за которой перестал работать контрол Stereo Upmixing. Теперь все работает.
UPD 8/04/2014:
Патчи теперь в стабильном ядре 3.14. Качаем с kernel.org и пользуемся.
Новая версия драйвера будет по умолчанию в Linux 3.14. А на старые версии ядра можно применить (желательно последнюю, 4-ю версию, искать по ключевому слову Oxygen) серию патчей:

Звуковая карта ASUS Xonar Essence STX не работает в Линуксе 17.2 Mint, производитель карты сообщил, что драйверы не планируют производить и в Линуксе она работать не может. В интернете некоторые пишут, якобы карта как-то включается, возможно это могут делать продвинутые программисты. С другой стороны в настройках звука карта отображается, все галочки и ползунки включены, кроме этого карта издаёт щелчки при загрузке системы (специальные реле — особенность этой карты), таким образом системы видит карту автоматически, но все плееры молчат, звука нет вообще, как будто что-то надо включить и я не знаю что и где. У кого работает эта карта в Линуксе и что вы делали?

Там ваша карточка указана как рабочая, начиная с kernel 2.6.30. Вероятно, вам надо поставить драйверы alsa. Не исключено, чтобы всё это заработало, понадобится ещё PulseAudio.
Да, но где и что именно надо скачать, допустим какой драйвер?
Гипотетически, всё это должно присутствовать в репозиториях Mint. В моём дистрибутиве это был, по-моему, alsa-driver (ставился исключительно для максимальной функциональности карты, «чтобы было», так как ядро сразу определило новое устройство, а мне, по большому счёту, нужно только воспроизведение).
По идее, новое ядро подхватывает вашу карту без проблем, никакие драйверы не нужны. Могу лишь предположить, что что-то вы делаете не так. Например, если у вас есть встроенная звуковая карта, то лучше её отключить в BIOS’е, а то могут быть конфликты прерываний. Есть ещё интересный момент: иногда карточка прописывается в системе как бы не до конца и определяется как Dummy Audio Device. Это происходит, если поставить карточку и перезагрузить компьютер, не воткнув в линейный выход включённую акустику или наушники — устройство звуковоспроизведения вроде как есть, но звуков не издаёт. Тогда карту надо перепрописать заново и перезагрузить компьютер с включённой акустикой.
Кроме того, раз Mint — это вариация на тему Debian/Ubuntu, лучше спросить, как «заводится» Xonar, на англоязычном форуме Ubuntu (там просто люди относительно вменяемые, а не дикари).
Более того, Линукс так и обозначает карту в настройках звука — ASUS Xonar Essence STX, я нажимаю на неё, всё включено, это явно что-то мешает уже после железа, в биосе встройка отключена, это я знаю, попробую ещё при включённой аппаратуре запуститься.

Сомневаюсь, что в вашем случае необходимо ковыряться в конфигурациях и мучить командную строку. Полагаю, что раз Mint, как они пишут, works out of the box, with full multimedia support and is extremely easy to use, там должны быть нормальные утилиты с человеческим GUI для настройки аудио и всего остального.

I have read some Topics on this from Linux Mint 13 — that said it worked — to Linux 14 and up — that said it didn’t work.
I have tried Linux Mint Mate 17.3 and Cinnamon, and also Linux Mint Cinnamon 18.1. Here is the problem:
I have the front Audio from the case hooked up — (you know the front jacks for headphones and mic) — I get sound from the front headphone jack (speakers plugged into the case front) but NO SOUND from the rear jacks. Why is this.? It’s obviously a driver issue that’s been going on a long time. I haven’t found a solution from the forums or web. Anybody out there know to make the rear jacks work.? ASUS Xonar DG
I only get a «headphones» option in the sound settings. If there is no solution for Linux and the Xonar PCI Card, can you tell me what PCI sound card with front audio for the case hook-up works with Linux,?

I have Onboard Sound, AC97, but it does not work so I switched it off in the Bios.
I installed the mixer last night but the only option I get is HEADPHONES, nothing else.
Should I get Xonar ST card.? The driver for the DG is correct but no sound from rear jacks.

Did you have anything plugged into the front jacks when trying to use the rear jacks?
The way the default sound setup may be is (simplifying here), there’s the hardware, drivers etc in the kernel, a layer called ALSA, a layer called Pulseaudio, the audio backend and the app on top. Pulseaudio’s importance is debateable, it might be called an exchange used for convenience. If pulseaudio is being a problem, one could remove or disable it and use «straight» ALSA (wouldn’t recommend doing so unless you’re out of viable options). Maybe it’s a bug in the mixer app. We can sort of bypass the default mixer app by using alsamixer.
alsamixer is a command-line utility, a part of ALSA that should already be installed by default. I’ll attach a screenshot —

Yes. That would be nice to get it working properly. Since adding the card and turning off on-board sound, the system is a bit more responsive. Which stands to reason. I am not sure how to add a pic, but here is the Alsa return:

Read it. Can’t make much from the fractured english of the original bug report post but from the rest of the posts, it looks like the right controls weren’t present or weren’t working in, I guess, the desktop’s default sound control app, but that they were able to use alsamixer (the terminal app I suggested before, not gnome alsa mixer) or qasmixer (it’s provided in the repositories — I’ve never used it) to select the right output. Have you tried alsamixer yet? Open the terminal and at the prompt, type alsamixer, then press enter. You should get something that resembles the pic I posted before. You use the arrow keys to navigate around (left or right) and work the controls (up or down), the m button for mute, as the last post at the bottom of the page in that link adds, «go to tab and use up/down to change output. » If you need help using it, you can check out the manual page for it by entering man alsamixer in the terminal.
If you can’t control the sound as you need with alsamixer (or that ‘qasmixer’ if you want to try it), perhaps install pavucontrol and try that.

I uninstalled pavucontrol and gnome alsa mixer to get unconfused and installed qasmixer from the software manager and actually had the option to change to multichannel.
Viola’ — sound from the rear ports. I am so happy when things work the way they are supposed to.
