Windows Update Error • driver update for LaserJet M1530 MFP Series PCL 6 — Error 0x80240017
In Windows Update, Windows 10 is trying to update my printer driver for • driver update for LaserJet M1530 MFP Series PCL 6
I get each time Windows Update I get:

Can anyone tell me how to remove the ability for Windows 10 to try to update this printer driver witch works just fine.
Getting the exact same error on three different Windows 10 laptops in the house. This is NOT a problem with your computer. Either HP or Microsoft has to fix this. None of the solutions suggested on line or from Microsoft support has fixed this error for me.
Hopefully the next Windows 10 update (coming 1/26/2015) will correct this problem.

I had the same error message in Windows 10 update but I do not had HP LaserJet M1530 MFP series installed on my PC
Microsoft community has an answer to the driver issue as it is a ghost update,
Go to there and look for Windows 10 — Where is the «Hide or Unhide updates» feature hidden and look for Mr. Lawrence Crumb reply, after applying the script you will not see anymore the error message in the Wndows 10 Update
Finally a solution is found:
If a driver or update you are being offered is causing system crashes or instability and Windows was operating correctly prior to that update, you can follow these instructions to prevent the unwanted driver or update from being installed:
To uninstall the unwanted driver:
- Launch the Device Manager with a right click on the lower left corner of the desktop and a left click on Device Manager .
- Located the device driver with the problem driver installed, right click and choose Uninstall.
- In the uninstall dialog, check the box to Delete the driver software for this device if available.
To uninstall an unwanted Windows Update:
- Type “View Installed Updates” in the Search box and then click on View Installed Updates – Control Panel from the Search results.
- To uninstall the unwanted update, select it from the list and then click Uninstall .
To temporarily prevent the driver or update from being reinstalled until a new driver or updated fix is available, a troubleshooter is available that provides a user interface for hiding and showing Windows Updates and drivers for Windows 10. You can obtain and run the «Show or hide updates» troubleshooter by downloading it from the Microsoft Download Center.

Having recently upgraded to windows 10 in windows update there is an update which is continually failing to install — HP driver update for HP LaserJet M1530 MFP Series PCL 6 — Error 0x80240017 — does anyone have any information on how to fix this ?

I had the same problem with the Settings->Update & Security->Windows Update.
Kept throwing: HP driver update for HP LaserJet Professional CP1520 Series PCL 6 — Error 0x80240017
As you said, went to the Device Manager, right clicked the HP printer, selected Update Driver, found the update and installed fine.
Now, Settings->Update and Security->Windows Update is happy.

just another update on this issue:
— the comments from MS support do not solve the issue; be careful: one of the mentioned links leads to a Win8/8.1 solution, which proposes hiding the update and is not supported in Win10 (latest updates installed incl. 1511 CU). The explanations in these posts are dealing with deep engineering in your system and do not relate to or solve the problem in any way, since you did not face any issues with windows update and Win10 so far
— even ‘wushowhide.diagcab’ does not fix the issue with latest updates installed (see above)
— only solution so far is to remove the printer item from your ‘devices & printers’ section in control panel — best case is to uninstall the printer incl. the drivers. In case, please check your registry ‘HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Print’ section — subkeys environments and printers — for existing entries of the specific printer object and drivers. Be careful: changes in registry may lead to an unresponsive/unusable system. If you are not sure about what to do call for support.
— after cleaning/removal re-add your printer and perform the actions listed in telemarkers post dated October 24th
— in my special case I removed the printer object and cleaned the registry manually; afterwards the automatic installation of the printer finished successfully w/o any issues and latest drivers. No more popup of failed updates occurred.
I am not quite sure about the origin of the issue, but I suppose a deep dialogue between MS and HP could lead to a general solution. There might also be a chance of H/W vendor’s S/W and/or drivers not completely being signed/verified for use with Win10 (see issue between Win10 and ESET antivirus products).
