Drivers for Scanjet 4470c for Windows 7?

I have an old Scanjet 4470c which worked perfectly with my old XP machine which recently died. I now have a new Windows 7 machine but there do not seem to be any drivers for the 4470 from either HP or from 3rd party driver suppliers. Am I correct? If so, do I have to ditch the 4470? There are newer HP scanners G 4050 and 5590. Will these work with Windows 7? I need a scanner which will scan documents as well as 35mm slides and film. Any ideas? Any help will be gratefully accepted

Unfortunately there are no drivers for the 4470c. Running an older driver in Compatibility Mode has been reported to not work either. The only alternative would be if you are running Windows 7 Pro , you can use the Microsoft Virtual XP machine to run it in. Win 7 Home Premium did not come with this feature.

For your information bauman. You People do not include those of us who help you here on the forum. We are just volunteers, not HP employees.

That OLD scanner did exactly what it was designed to do. It worked on Windows XP.

Microsoft is responsible for changing the operating system, not HP or anyone else.

HP and other companies opt to update drivers or not based on the number of units sold usually. Also considering the fact that hardly anyone uses standalone scanners anymore, they don’t continue spending money on programers to update every driver on every product out there as there are thousands of products over the years. So HP did not set out to do you personally in.

But good luck on that anyway.

Install Scanjet 4470c under windows 10, 64bit

I am trying to install my Scanjet 4470c scanner on my new computer with Windows 10 64bit OS. I seem to have loaded from the original disc successfully, but with an error message and the program does not recognize the scanner. I presume this is due to an out of date driver, but I am not sure.

Has anybody had this same problem?

Are you jumping from Windows XP to Windows 10 by chance?

IF so, that scanner was not supported with proper drivers past XP. That’s why it is not recognized by the software install.

Here is a list of scanner models that are not compatible with Windows 8 (and 10).

Thank you for your response, it is very encouraging. I have followed your suggestion and have d/l the s/w from VueScan, i.e. VueScan 9 x64 and it installed ok. When I tried to run it, it stalled and gave me this message: «VueScan found an HP ScanJet 4470, but no HP software for this scanner was found on your system. Try downloading a driver for this scanner from www.hp.com.» I reinstalled HP Scanjet 4400c as I had already done, and it still gave me the message. I presume the original driver is on the original disc so I am not sure what to do now.

What do you suggest?

Rich, I didnt suggest to use VueScan.

The list I gave you shows your model is NOT compatible with Windows 8 or 10.

Im guessing you read the suggestion at the bottom of that article for VueScan. Those alternative programs are for compatible models if they are not listed in that article.

If you scroll down further on the VueScan page, you will see this:

Reason being, VueScan wont work without the proper driver for that scanner installed first. VueScan only creates functionality thats missing due to no full feature software available. It does not include the driver to communicate between devices.

The driver on the disk is outdated and will not work either.

Rule of Thumb: You always want to first check online for the latest driver available for any device you are installing. Even if you just purchased a new printer.
