How to Remove the Windows 10 Search Box from the Taskbar
A new feature in Windows 10 is a search box where Cortana lives. It takes a lot of room on the taskbar, here’s how to disable it.
One of the new features in Windows Technical Preview build 9926 is a new search box where Cortana lives, and it takes up a good chunk of space on the taskbar. If you would rather have more room on the taskbar for icons, you can get rid of it.
If you’re moving from Windows 7 to Windows 10, you will like this trick because it makes the user interface look and work like you’re used to. And the cool part is, you don’t lose access to the search and Cortana feature. Here’s a look.
Hide Cortana Search Box from Taskbar
To remove it, right-click an empty area on the taskbar and go to Search on the menu, and there you have the option to disable it or just show the search icon.
First, here’s a look at showing only the search icon – which looks similar to Cortana when you activate it. Just click it to bring up Cortana search.
In the following example, I completely disabled it — all gone. This gives you a nice and clean look to the taskbar and easy access to the Start button. I should also mention that I removed the Task View icon too.
So now you might be wondering how to search? Simple, hit the Windows Key or click Start to bring up the menu, the search box is right there just like in Windows 7. Of course, now the difference is you can either talk to Cortana or type in your query.
I am hesitant to write ‘how to’ articles about a beta version of an OS as things can change in the final release. However, this seems like a feature that will make it to the final version, and if something changes we’ll let you know.

Отключаем отображение строки поиска в панели задач
Чтобы убрать поиск Windows 10 из панели задач достаточно двух кликов мышью:
- Нажмите правой кнопкой мыши по полю поиска или в пустом месте панели задач.
- В разделе «Поиск» выберите пункт «Скрыто».
Сразу после этого панель поиска перестанет отображаться — готово.
Если вам потребуется убрать что-то еще из системных значков, сделать это можно также в контекстном меню панели задач (например, отключить пункт «Показать кнопку Представления задач»), а значки в области уведомлений справа можно отключить в разделе «Область уведомлений» в параметрах панели задач (нижний пункт этого же меню).
Если вы не планируете использовать поиск Windows 10 в дальнейшем, может иметь смысл отключить индексирование, для этого:
- Зайдите в панель управления (с отключенным поиском это можно сделать так: нажимаем клавиши Win+R, вводим control и нажимаем Enter). В поле «Просмотр» справа вверху панели управления установите смените «Категории» на «Значки».
- Откройте пункт «Параметры индексирования».
- Нажмите «Изменить» и отключите все расположения, включенные в индексирование.
- Также в проводнике вы можете открыть свойства локальных дисков и снять отметки «Разрешить индексировать содержимое файлов на этом диске в дополнение к свойствам файла».

Надеюсь, всё было понятно и цель достигнута. Однако, еще раз: я рекомендую использовать поиск Windows 10 — это удобно и избавляет от необходимости искать, где находится тот или иной системный элемент, что часто оказывается полезным для начинающих пользователей.

А какой параметр реестра отвечает за её отображение?
Параметр DWORD с именем SearchboxTaskbarMode и значением 0

It’s definitely not possible to make any changes to the search button and the task switcher button in Technical Preview. By the looks of it, Windows currently treats those 2 buttons as integral parts of the task bar (notice the context menu is the same as if you were to right-click on an empty part of the task bar).
The search button is redundant to the Start menu and opens slower than the menu. I hope this gets resolved in final release.

I’d like to see this as well.
Get rid of the search button, and I’d like to see the taskview move to the far bottom right where win7 had the ‘view desktop’ button.

Here’s an easy and simple portable tool to remove both Search and Task View button.

I upgraded to Win10.
When I select the link for the taskbar cleaner, then select the Download Latest Version button, the window shows the address, but nothing appears.

Right click the taskview button; click Show Task View button to deslect the option and hide the button.
Right click the taskbar; click Search; select Hidden to remove the search box.
You can get them back if you change your mind by right clicking the task bar and reselecting the appropriate options.
