On screen display lenovo windows 10

Finally, we have hotkeys for the 2010 and 2011 ThinkPads (T410, T420, X201, X220, W510, W520, etc). It will be posted to the support website within a couple weeks but for now you can get it from the link below. (I will update this post with the URL when it is available on the support website.)

Re: ThinkPad On Screen Display (hotkeys) for older systems — T410, T420, X201, X220, etc

I have been using the Win7 version on my X220 with Windows 8 (fresh installation, not upgraded) with no problems, but with On Screen Display disabled, as the screen brightness and volume displays were redundant on Windows 8, so I did not enable that.

I have the Win7 versions of Power Manager, Access Connections and Communications Utility installed, which were all working fine, apart from me losing wifi connection every half an hour. I also could not just use System Update to take care of everything for me.

Now with this new Hotkey driver none of the related hotkeys work and Fn+F6 even gives an error message saying that Lenovo Settings is not installed!

I don’t even want Lenovo Settings, as I would much prefer to have Windows 8 updates for Access Connections and Power Manager, as apparently it does not offer the same functionality.

Is there any chance this is going to happen, or am I getting my hopes up?

Betreff: ThinkPad On Screen Display (hotkeys) for older systems — T410, T420, X201, X220, etc

Just installed the package on my X201, but as a result, the Lenovo OSD vanished and I see only the Win8 OSD.

Anybody else with the same — unexpected result? Or is this just a problem on my system?

It’s pretty clear that it is the expected bahaviour, as Win8 already has OSD for Brightness and Volume. The Hotkey OSD still comes up for Caps Lock, Num Lock and Mic On/Off.

Using the earlier (windows 7 hotkey driver) everything workds but the OSD was duplicated. Now with this driver, the volume works, but mute does not, only some of the hotkeys actually work. The driver does not have any notes regarding the expected behavior but it is disapointing that my mute button does not work anymore. Reverting back to the older drivers does not correct the issue.

So if I look at http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/detail.page?DocID=DS014985 does that mean I can run Hotkeys on an R500 under Windows 8? Will it work? Has anybody tried it?

Get the best of both worlds!

Install the Windows 8 Hotkeys installation in Windows 7 compatiblity mode.

No onscreen display redundencies, Thinklight display works, Wireless Communications OSD works, mute key works, Fn + Function keys all work and the Fn + space magnifies the screen. I used this approach for a week and there appears to be no downside.

You can also create this shortcut on your desktop

This displays the old Fn + F5 wireless OSD without triggering the Windows 8 Airplane mode toggle which will normally happen when pressing the Fn + F5 keys..

Try it! Results and comments welcomed.

Now if I can only get that Bluetooth led to stay off between reboots.

Re: ThinkPad On Screen Display (hotkeys) for older systems — T410, T420, X201, X220, etc

I’m also facing the same Blueooth issues, Fn+F5 shortcut toggles Airplane Mode only, I’ve tried installing the Broadcom Windows 8 Bluetooth driver, which puts a toggle key under the Airplane Mode sidebar, it’s supposed to switch Bluetooth on and off, however the Bluetooth LED stays on all the time, whether on or off.

Kind of annoying to see the delayed support from Lenovo on those matters.

Currently running Windows 8 Enterprise on an X220 (4286 CTO).

Re: ThinkPad On Screen Display (hotkeys) for older systems — T410, T420, X201, X220, etc

Now that Lenovo has (IMO) gone and broken the Fn+F5 functionality in Win8 with sirplane mode toggling, does anyone know how to disable the toggle mode and revert this back to the original Fn+F5 way of single control of the wireless radio power settings?

I realize that I can use the TpFnF5.exe to do this (which does not toggle), but I would like to use the fn+F5 keys. I’m a home user and I don’t really need airplane mode here. It is very annoying to have your wireless automatically turned off/on when using the Fn+F5 function keys. Why oh why is Lenovo forcing this behavior on its users and not just fix the Fn+F5 settings option to what it says:

«Show a menu that allows me to control power settings for wireless radios in my system».

Has anyone figured a way of stopping airplane mode toggling when Fn+F5 is used in Win8?
