Mumble Open Source, Low Latency, High Quality Voice Chat
We provide downloads for the official client and server programs. A Linux distribution may provide their own packages and have their own maintainer, which we will describe below. We also link to some third party projects.
Version 1.3.3 is the latest stable version of Mumble and was released on October 5th, 2020.
Server note: Depending on the context and packager our server program is called “mumble-server” or “Murmur”
For the individual files and for a zipped sources file see the 1.3.3 GitHub release page.
Instructions on verifying GPG signatures of Mumble downloads can be found in the linked document.
Linux
Your distribution probably provides official packages for Mumble. Please refer to your OS packages. Distributions with official packages include Debian, Ubuntu, Fedora, openSUSE, Arch Linux, Mandriva/ROSA/Unity.
Ubuntu
Ubuntu provides their own packages. But we also provide a PPA (Personal Package Archive) which you can add to use more recent stable or development snapshot versions.
Snap/Snapcraft
A Snap package is published and maintained by the third party Snapcraft community at https://snapcraft.io/mumble
Flatpak
A Flatpak Package is published and maintained by the third party Flatpak community at https://www.flathub.org/apps/details/info.mumble.Mumble
Mobile Clients
Android (third party)
We do not currently provide an official Android client. However, you can use one of the third party clients (that we do not develop or support ourselves).
Development snapshots
Development snapshots contain unreleased features and changes that will eventually be available in the next stable release. Please report any problems you encounter on our issue tracker.
At the moment we are in the process of changing our build infrastructure for releases. Our next snapshots will be based on the new system. Until the new system is established we are not publishing development snapshots (using the old system).
Note (macOS): Apple introduced a stricter verification and warning process. macOS will now warn you when installing the Mumble application. This is expected and not a security issue. Apple will not currently verify and acknowledge our package unless we pay. (Issue tracked in #4263)
Source Code
As a free software project the source code is publicly readable and under a permissive license.
Our Mumble project source code is hosted on GitHub as mumble . The iOS app as mumble-iphoneos .

Mumble — Open Source voice-chat software
Mumble is an Open Source, low-latency and high-quality voice-chat program written on top of Qt and Opus.
There are two modules in Mumble; the client (mumble) and the server (murmur). The client works on Windows, Linux, FreeBSD and macOS, while the server should work on anything Qt can be installed on.
Please note that with «Windows» we mean 7 and newer. Vista may be supported, but we can’t guarantee it. If you don’t want to encounter potential issues, you may download Mumble 1.3.x, the last version to provide support for XP.
The documentation of the project can be found on the wiki. The FAQ can also be found there.
For information on how to build Mumble, checkout the dedicated documentation.
If you want to report a bug or create a feature-request, you can open a new issue (after you have checked that there is none already) on GitHub.
After installation, you should have a new Mumble folder in your Start Menu, from which you can start Mumble.
Doubleclick the Murmur icon to start murmur. There will be a small icon on your taskbar from which you can view the log.
To set the superuser password, run murmur with the parameters -supw
To install Mumble, drag the application from the downloaded disk image into your /Applications folder.
Murmur is distributed separately from the Mumble client on MacOS. It is called Static OS X Server and can be downloaded from the main webpage.
Once downloaded it can be run in the same way as on any other Unix-like system. For more information please see the «Running Murmur» in the Linux/Unix section below.
If you have installed Mumble through your distributon’s package repostory, you should be able to find Mumble in your start menu. No additional steps necessary.
Murmur should be run from the command line, so start a shell (command prompt) and go to wherever you installed Mumble. Run murmur as
The OpenGL overlay works by intercepting the call to switch buffers, and just before the buffer switch, we draw our nice GUI.
To load a game with the overlay enabled, start the game like this: LD_PRELOAD=/path/to/libmumble.so.1.1 gamename
If you have Mumble installed through the binary packages, this can be done by simply typing: mumble-overlay gamename
