That’s good cutomer support, not our problem! Wow. I must be doing something seriously wrong helping my clients with whatever the problem is to ensure they can work optimially!

Anyways, a few google searches seems to indicate that the error typically related to unregistered dll file(s). For instance, see:

So it would be a question of reresgistering the missing dll file(s).

On the other hand, if you truly wish to get the JET component, see: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/271908 for info on how to get them.

Thanks for the response, Daniel. I agree — it isn’t very good customer support.

I got the same Google results you did, so I have already manually re-registered all of the MDAC files. It didn’t help. I also read the other article you linked to and the one it contained about manually getting the JET drivers:

But my version (for Windows 7) isn’t listed in their chart. The version on my msjet40.dll is 4.00.9756.0. Even for Vista it says, «If you are running Windows Vista, you have a later version of Jet 4.0 than the version that is included with Jet 4.0 SP8.»

Out of desperation, I tried installing Access Database Engine:

Not surprisingly, that did not help either. I’m out of ideas. I think a file might be missing and I don’t know how to identify and/or get it without re-installing Windows 7.

Okay, now I have read the web page for the link you provided and see they really state it can run on Windows 7 64 bit, only that Users have reported it works. (This probably why theu gave no Support, they know it’s an issue.) The file format suggests it is a problem though they never come out and say so. Oh, reinstalling Windows won’t work because Windows 7 64 bit just doesn’t have what you need and Access 2010 uses ACE not JET.

The files needed most likely will not be found on a 64 bit machine (and unless you have Access 2003 or earlier not sure they would found regardless). You can try right mouse click and *Run as Administrator* and see if that works. Or,depending on your version of Windows, running in XP Mode.

Another thought might be if you have a copy of Access 2003, this might help.

Участник проекта Zero Day Initiative Lucas Leong (Trend Micro) раскрыл подробности о наличии критической уязвимости в Windows, позволяющей удаленно выполнить произвольный код в контексте текущего процесса. Для успешной эксплуатации проблемы потребуется участие пользователя, который должен открыть вредоносный файл или перейти по ссылке.

Уязвимость обнаружена в СУБД Microsoft JET Database Engine и представляет собой возможность записи за пределами выделенного в памяти буфера (out-of-bounds OOB write) и проявляется при открытии источника данных JET (Joint Engine Technology) через интерфейс OLE DB.

OLE DB (Object Linking and Embedding, Database, OLEDB) — набор COM-интерфейсов, позволяющих приложениям унифицировано работать с данными разных источников и хранилищ информации.

Чтобы вызвать эту уязвимость, пользователю необходимо будет открыть специально сформированный файл, содержащий данные, хранящиеся в формате СУБД Microsoft JET Database Engine. Различные приложения используют этот формат базы данных. Эксплуатация этой уязвимости может позволить выполнять код на уровне текущего процесса.

На github опубликован PoC данной уязвимости, которой подвержена вся линейка современных ОС от Microsoft: Windows 7, Windows 8.1, Windows 10, и Windows Server Edition 2008 до 2016.

Любопытным фактом является то, что детали уязвимости были предоставлены компании Microsoft еще 8 мая, 14 мая Microsoft подтвердили наличие бага. Согласно политике ZDI после 120-дневного ожидания (4 месяца), они опубликовали уязвимость. В настоящее время компания Microsoft готовит исправление, которое, предположительно, будет включено в состав плановых октябрьских обновлений.

Злоумышленники могут крайне успешно использовать эту уязвимость при фишинговых атаках, реализации APT-векторов и атаках класса watering hole. Рекомендуется применять политики использования доверенных файлов, пока не будет выпущен патч.

И в догонку к теме с поиском пути — ты так и не ответил, какая разрядность системы у тебя.
Если все-таки 64-разрядная, то Jet в ней может не работать.

Вообще, Jet считается устаревший с момента выпуска MDAC 2.6 и рекомендуется перейти на 2007 Office System Driver: Data Connectivity Components
