Performing these steps may resolve this issue.
Uninstall HP My display from the PC.
Update the graphics driver:
- In Windows, search for and open Device Manager .
- In the list of devices, expand Display adapters .
- Right-click the graphics device and select Update Driver Software .
- Click Search automatically for updated driver software .
- Follow the on-screen instructions to install the updated driver.
- Restart your computer to complete the installation of the updates.
Install updates using HP Support Assistant
1) In the search box, type and open HP Support Assistant.
2) Check for updates.
3) If the updates are available, click on install and restart the computer.
Note: If you do not have HP Support assistant installed, Click here to download the same.
Reinstall HP My Display drivers:

these steps did not take care of the problem. I should say I am using an Nvidia GT730 graphics card with associated drivers. It has its own display interface (Nvidia Control Panel). Is there a conflict between this and HO My Display?
@Monterrey There shouldn’t be any compatibility issue between the two, besides this seems to be an issue with the application, not the hardware components and here’s what I suggest you do:
Check if this error occurs on safe mode: click here for details on how to access it.
If it works fine on safe mode, there could be another application that’s conflicting and we’ll need to find that particular app by disabling all startup items using the system utility:

If it doesn’t work on safe mode either, this could be an issue with the user account, please create a new admin account and check if that works:

HP My Display software will not open — crashing on WIN 10 for HP 24er monitor product # T3M80AA
Downloaded HP My Display version 2.21 Rev.A. Starts up,says enumerating display devices Phase 1, then crashes and says HP My Display has stopped working. A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available. This is a brand new monitor. Any ideas? Thanks,

As I understand, HP My Display software does not work.
I understand you are in need of assistance and I’d love to help.
Let’s try these steps to resolve the issue:
Step 1. Uninstall HP My display from the PC.
Step 2: Update the graphics driver :
Check for display driver update in the Device Manager (Windows 10)
- In Windows, search for and open Device Manager .
- In the list of devices, expand Display adapters .
- Right-click the graphics device and select Update Driver Software .
- Click Search automatically for updated driver software .
- Follow the on-screen instructions to install the updated driver.
- Restart your computer to complete the installation of the updates.
Update drivers through HP Support Assistant 8 or install latest drivers from support.hp.com
- On the taskbar, click the HP Support Assistant
icon. - If there is no icon in the taskbar, search for and open HP Support Assistant in Windows.
- Click My devices on the top of the HP Support Assistant window, then click Updates in the My PC box . The Updates window opens.
- If HP Support Assistant detects updates, the updates display in the Updates available window.
- To check for recent updates, click Check for updates and messages and install them.
