Question: Q: HP Laserjet M1005 — using scanner
I’ve an HP Laserjet multifunc. connected to my iMac.
I’ve no problem with the printer but I cannot use the scanner ’cause it’s not recognised.
I’ve downloaded the last driver from HP site.
Some tips about it?
Thanks

Welcome to Apple Discussions.
Exactly how is it connected to the Mac? USB, through Airport Express or Airport Extreme, print server etc.
Also have you used Image Capture or have you only tried HP’s software?

I’ve tried with Hp software and any others program who can use scanning (preview, iwork, .
Image Capture tell me that the scanner is used by preview.

OK. What I’d recommend is uninstalling the printer and NOT using HP’s software. How you uninstall it is:
1. System Preferences, Print & Fax, locate the printer on the left side then highlight it and click the — at the bottom of the preference.
2. Re-start the computer.
3. Re-open the Print & Fax preference and this time click the + symbol on the left. You iMac should locate the machine, simply add it following any instructions.
4. After it is installed use Image Capture to scan. You can launch IC various ways the easiest I’ve found is locate the app in your Applications folder and drag it to your Dock. Another simple way is to use Spotlight which you can shortcut by clicking Command, Spacebar then type Image Capture.
That should take care of it.

I tried what you said.
When I start Image Capture I get this message «trying opening scanner session» and nothing else.

Yes, in Image Capture the device is highlighted but no answer .
I’ve tried also the HP software but it doesn’t see the scanner.
HP device manager is empty.

OK, let’s start all over again and what I want you to do is uninstall the Printer from the Print & Fax preference. Then I want you to locate and remove the HP software from your computer. Look to see if HP has a uninstaller for it in the Applications folder. If they do use that, if they don’t then drag the software to the trash bin and after you have done that download and use AppCleaner (it’s free) this will look for any remnants of the HP software and then remove it.
Once you have done all of that then disconnect the USB cable, and do a SMC reset ( http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964) and then a PRAM reset ( http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1379)
After you have done the SMC reset and PRAM reset then you can go back, connect the USB cable and using Print & Fax preference add the printer again and try Image Capture.
I suspect your system is «confused» and just needs to start like it never had the printer attached and start over with a clean installation of the device.
Драйверы принтеров и сканеров для компьютеров Mac

Question: Q: HP LaserJet P1005 on a Mac?
Hey Everyone,
Does anyone know whether a HP LaserJet P1005 works with Mac OS X Leopard?
I’m using a MacBook Pro with Leopard installed.
Thanks in Advance,

Checking the HP website shows that they have a supported driver for up to 10.4.3.
You could try the 1.0.4 drivers on Leopard, they might work.

Bought the printer today, works a treat.
Thanks for the reply.

Hi,
I have been having substantial problems with drivers provided on the HP CD.
I have the printer shared using Base Station pronter share (USB).
I experience problems in hte grafic of the pref pane interface (controls out of place and non selectable)
and in the dirver itself (jobs stop unexpectedly).
Very unhappy about HP support. I only bought the printe because it had manual duplex and Brother did not but I regret the purchase. HP has some serious work to do in driver/softwarefo the Mac.
I also have the «Utility» icon disabled in the printer pref pane so I cannot monitor my printer remotely. I am suessing this is more a Bonjour issue than anything to do with HP dirvers.
Just felt like I had to leave a note.

The situation has changed: there’s now a new driver available. Very recently, Hewlett Packard posted an OS X 10.5 Leopard compatible driver package for their P1000 and P1500 series Laserjet printers. See www.hewlettpackard.com (choose «software and driver downloads»)
Here is the release information:
«Release Date: 2008-05-20 Version: 1.0.5
This download package contains HP LaserJet P1000 and P1500 Series Mac OS X Installer with updated (universal binary) files. Full printing support for Mac OS X v10.3, v10.4, v10.5 PPC and Intel processor Macs is included with this download.»
This comes VERY late of course, but hopefully should solve the problems discussed in this thread.
I bought an HP P1505 Laserjet two days ago. The driver that came with my printer was the old version, so I downloaded and installed the 10.5 compatible driver. I have printed to the P1505 no problem (directly over USB) from my MacBook running OS X 10.5.2.
what did you do to get it working? I installed the 1.0.5 drivers, and there’s now a «/Library/Printers/hp/laserjet/HP1006» directory on my system, containing:
drwxrwxr-x 3 root admin 102 7 mai 02:43 HP1006PDE.bundle
drwxrwxr-x 3 root admin 102 7 mai 02:43 HP1006PM.plugin
drwxrwxr-x 3 root admin 102 18 juuni 16:23 hp LaserJet Utility.app
However, the P1005 does not appear in the drivers list under System Prefs. 😟

I was looking at buying a P1005 this weekend. In snooping around HP’s FTP site, I found the following driver download, which appears to be version 1.0.6 for the P1005:
There’s a DMG file in there. Anyone want to give it a shot and see if it works any better in OS X 10.5?
Okay, I’ve made slight progress — the printer now works when connected locally:
However, if it’s connected to the access point where I want it to be, the P1005 does not appear in the PPDPicker list:
Jul 10, 2008 12:29 AM
After some further glaring at the http://tfr.cafe.ee/kama/p1005-1.png screenshot it finally hit me that the window is named «PPDPicker».
The P1005 driver is installed in: /Library/Printers/hp/laserjet/HP1006
However, there’s a directory /Library/Printers/PPDs/Contents/Resources with a whole bunch of .gz archives, and, low and behold, this matches the list of printers offered in PPDPicker.
So, have I come to the correct understanding that I made a poor printer choice and just plain cannot print to a LPD-shared non-PostScript printer in Leopard?

Not exactly. What you didn’t realize is that the driver from HP was written to only work with direct USB. The «standard» network protocols on OS X are provided by CUPS. You need a CUPS driver to do IP printing. Install the foo2zjs 3-part driver set and follow the directions:
http://www.linuxfoundation.org/en/OpenPrinting/MacOSX/foo2zjs
When using the LPD protocol, be sure to enter the correct queue name (port name) — it is a part of the printer address in that protocol!
