Fully XML-aware editing environment
Xmplify analyses your XML as you type, and maintains a rich set of meta-data so it can provide intelligent editing aids and suggestions according to your document’s content and the current editing context.
See your document’s structure at a glance
Xmplify provides an Outline view of your document that shows its structure, and automatically keeps the Outline up to date to reflect the latest edits.
Automatic document verification
If your document specifies a DTD or XML Schema, Xmplify automatically uses that to verify your document’s content. The verification results are automatically kept up to date as your edit your document.
Auto-complete XML based on its DTD or XML Schema
Xmplify uses its knowledge of your document’s current structure and its definition (DTD or XML Schema) to provide intelligent auto-completion suggestions. Xmplify’s auto-completion pop-up also displays displays documentation relevant to each auto-completion, putting all the information you need to create and edit semantically correct documents at your fingertips.
Node documentation
Xmplify scans for and displays any documentation provided by your documents’ XSDs for whatever node you’re currently editing, providing you with full details of the current context no matter where you are in your document. If your document specifies a DTD, Xmplify displays documentation based on the DTD specification for the current node. And if your document doesn’t specify an XSD or a DTD, Xmplify displays documentation based on the XSD it automatically derives for you.
And of course, like everything else in Xmplify, node documentation is automatically kept up to date as you move around in and edit your document — or its specification.
Automatic Schema derivation
If your document doesn’t specify a DTD or XML Schema Xmplify automatically derives a schema and seamlessly uses the derived schema for providing intelligent auto-completion suggestions. Xmplify updates the derived schema as you edit your document, so it can always offer accurate suggestions.
Xmplify can also derive a Schema from multiple source XML documents, so you don’t need to compile a «master» source XML document with all possible cases in order to derive a comprehensive Schema.
Navigate quickly to element definitions
Xmplify’s Goto Specification feature allows you to quickly jump to the location in your document’s DTD or XML Schema that defines the elements you’re working with. If your document doesn’t have an explicit DTD or schema, Goto Specification will take you to the relevant entries in the schema that Xmplify has automatically derived for your document.
XSL transformations
Xmplify makes applying XSLTs and working with their transformations easy, and with Xmplify’s Web Preview features you can easily check the output of XSLTs that produce (X)HTML.
Xmplify includes a built-in XSLT 1.0 processor, libxslt, and supports external XSLT processors (including XSLT 2.0 and 3.0 processors), such as Saxon and Xalan.
Web Preview
Xmplify’s Web Preview feature provides a preview of (X)HTML documents. Previews are automatically kept up to date as you edit your document.
Powerful searching by both XPath and Regular Expressions
Incremental search with regex support is built-in, and Xmplify makes it easy to run XPath queries and select matching nodes in your document.

Хороший XML редактор бережет нервы разработчика и делает процесс работы с XML легким и приятным. Вот так я подумал, когда начал пользоваться редактором Altova XMLSpy. Эта программа, безусловно, стоит своих денег.
Но руководство поставило задачу найти бесплатный аналог. Результатом поиска краткий обзор бесплатных XML редакторов.

Бесплатные XML редакторы
Exchanger XML Lite V3.2. Возникли проблемы с установкой. Инсталляция проходила почти до конца и замирала. А жаль. По описанию на сайте у него очень богатый набор функций.
EditiX Lite Version. Хороший редактор. Умеет делать XSLT трансформации. Но подсказки выдаются в виде выделения похожих частей кода, а не выпадающим списком и табличного представления документа. 
Serna Free. Этот редактор понравился мне меньше всех. Он прячет XML теги и жутко тормозит. Работать очень не удобно. 
XML Marker. Очень понравился. Показывает XML в табличном виде доступном для редактирования. Жаль нет подсказок и возможности делать XSLT трансформации. 
XMLPad. Понравился больше всех. Показывает XML в табличном виде и в виде дерева. Есть подсказки. Есть возможность делать XSLT трансформации. 
Ни один из рассмотренных бесплатных редакторов не может полностью заменить хороший платный редактор. Больше всех поставленным требованиям соответствует XMLPad. Но XML Marker можно одновременно редактировать код и видеть результат в табличном виде.

Не являюсь участником сообщества «Хабрахабр», поэтому, с Вашего позволения реагирую почтой на Ваш пост.
Хотел бы отметить, что Ваш обзор редактора Syntext Serna в разрезе редактора XML-файлов абсолютно некорректен.
Основное назначение Syntext Serna — не редактирование XML-конфигов или создание файлов XML Scheme и XSLT, а
визуальное создание и поддержка документации в формате XML (например, DocBook или DITA). Именно поэтому «Он прячет XML теги» (цитата), т.к.
основным пользователем редактора является технический писатель, которому не нужно иметь глубокие знания XML и уж
тем более, допускать ошибки в несбалансированных тэгах. Если требуется поправить XML-документ в невизуальном режиме,
то для этих целей в Syntext Serna существует режим «Plain mode».
Если возможно, буду благодарен, если разместите данное замечание в Вашем посте.
What’s a good XML viewer/editor for Mac OS X?
I use XML Editor from XMLmind for editing/viewing XML file in Mac.
It’s not bad, but I expect an XML editor for Mac. What options do I have including the commercial/free software?

OS X Software for Editing XML
- EditX (commercial)

- XMLMate (free/open source plugin) for TextMate (shareware)

Although it’s still a beta I have found Xmplify to be a pretty useful XML aware tool. Copes with DTD, XSD, XPath and XSL transformation in the tool
Eclipse works on Mac OS and it is one of the best XML editor around, actually. It has XSD validation, autocompletion towards this schema. Also, it offers a graphical XSD designer.
IntelliJ IDEA is overall a good IDE, it’s available on Mac, and it supports editing XML in ways such as syntax highlighting, collapsing a given scope, and validating XML. I haven’t used it much for XML, but I’ve had good experiences with that IDE for other purposes so thought I would mention it here.
And of course Emacs with psgml-mode or nxml-mode will edit XML.
Testing this and that, I settled down with Text Wrangler, with XML Tidy script. It’s free and pretty useful for my purposes.
If you have the Apple Developer Tools installed, then you have Xcode and this includes the «Property List Editor» application (Apple plist files are in XML format, hence the name).

If you like the application I would recommend buying the commercial version to show your support to the author.
As an alternative to XMLmind XML Editor there’s QXmlEdit It is also free and quite feature rich. It’s written in Qt and runs on Mac as well as the other platforms Qt supports.
I found a simple and free software to view, no editor: XML Spy
I always believe that an open source is the best and simple solutions. You can try BlueFish, or Brackets, I strongly advise you to try it, you won’t lose anything.
I’m looking for the same thing, and I just came across XMLmind XML Editor. I like how it can load my files pretty quickly.
@rds: I’ve tried using Eclipse to open my XML files, but it would hang with my files (>15MB). I’ve come to notice any editor built with Java hangs upon trying to open my file, or at least takes an unbearably long time to load it.
